Departments & Majors

The College of Human Ecology curriculum combines study in the liberal arts with courses in the physical, social, and behavioral sciences to create practical, career-oriented majors. All majors lead to a Bachelor of Science degree.

Minors

Human Ecology will accept all minors that are approved by the University. Minors are controlled, tracked, and audited by the department or unit in which they are offered. Information regarding completion of requirements must be reported by the unit sponsoring the minor to the Human Ecology's Registrar's Office for it to be noted on the transcript.

For Current Students
REGISTRAR

Registrar

The Human Ecology Office of Registrar is the College’s main record keeper. We support students, faculty and staff by helping undergraduates understand and complete requirements for graduation. Our office exists independently from the University Registrar but is guided by its mandates concerning confidentiality, accuracy, and security.

Curriculum Sheets

Most students fulfill the requirements outlined for their major in effect at the time of matriculation (the time they entered the College of Human Ecology). Students may choose to follow requirements specified for subsequent years. However, they cannot mix and match requirements from 2 or more different years.

Graduation Summaries

Beginning sophomore year, Human Ecology students may view their Graduation Summary, an individualized spreadsheet showing how far a student has progressed toward meeting graduation requirements based on coursework taken.

Graduation Summaries are updated once a year in the summer.

Pre-med planning

The College of Human Ecology offers a distinctive undergraduate education for premed students by addressing human needs from various perspectives in nutrition and health, human development, economic and public policy, and design and technology. All seven major fields of study are excellent preparation for medical school, and each offers numerous options should students decide to pursue other careers in health, business, law, or education.

Pre-law planning

Students interested in law school are not required to take a core curriculum of courses. However, students are encouraged to take courses that increase skill in communication, writing, and analytical thinking. Human Ecology students interested in pursuing a legal education should schedule an appointment to meet with the prelaw advisor (link to contact page) in the Student and Career Development Office, 172 MVR.
